Privacy Policy

Lyra Stories is a subscription service that creates personalized, parent-reviewed bedtime stories. It is designed for parents and legal guardians — the account always belongs to an adult, and every story is delivered to the adult for review first. This page explains what we collect, why, and the choices you have.
What we collect
From you (the parent or guardian)
- Your email address, and your name if you choose to provide it.
- Payment details are collected and processed by Stripe. We never see or store your card number.
About your child
- A first name or nickname for story personalization. We encourage you to use a nickname or pet name — the stories work just as well, and we never need a full or legal name.
- An age range (such as 5–7), never a birthdate.
- Story preferences: interests, topics to include, topics to avoid, and bedtime tone.
We do not collect a child's contact information, photos, precise location, or any account credentials for children. Children do not have accounts and cannot use the service directly.
Automatically
- Basic usage analytics on our marketing pages (Google Analytics), and standard server logs (IP address, browser type) used for security and troubleshooting.
- Cookies or local storage used to remember your cookie choice and keep the site working normally.
Cookies and analytics choices
The site uses a cookie notice that lets visitors choose Allow or Decline. Essential cookies or local storage may still be used to remember that choice and support normal site operation. Optional analytics cookies are used only for basic traffic measurement, such as understanding which pages visitors use and whether the site is working properly.
If you choose Decline, optional analytics storage is set to denied. You can also control or delete cookies through your browser settings.
How we use it
- To generate each personalized story and, on the voice plan, narrated audio. Generation uses OpenAI's API as a processor; per OpenAI's API policy, data sent through the API is not used to train their models.
- To run an automated content-safety review on every story before it reaches you.
- To email you when a new story is ready and to manage your account and billing.
We do not sell personal information, show ads, or share data for marketing.
Children's privacy
Lyra Stories is directed at parents, not children. All information about a child is provided by the parent or guardian, the parent controls it, and stories are delivered to the parent's inbox and portal for review before being shared with a child. Narrated audio never autoplays and sits behind the parent's sign-in. If you believe a child has provided us information directly, contact us and we will delete it.
Who we share data with
- Stripe — subscription payments and billing.
- OpenAI — story text and narration generation (as described above).
- Our email provider — to deliver story notifications and sign-in links.
- Google Analytics — anonymous-level marketing page analytics.
Storage and security
- All traffic is encrypted in transit (HTTPS).
- Story data lives in our own database; narrated audio is stored privately and is only playable through an authenticated parent or admin session.
- We keep daily backups so your story history is not lost.
Retention and deletion
We keep your data while your subscription is active so your story history works. You can cancel anytime from the billing portal. To delete your account and all associated data — including your child's profile, stories, and audio — email us and we will complete the deletion within 30 days.
Your rights
You can ask us at any time to access, correct, or delete the information we hold about you and your child. Just email us.
Changes
If this policy changes, we will update this page and the effective date above. Significant changes will be announced by email.
